Professor Remigio Berruto appointed EurAgEng President for 2026–2028

Professor Remigio Berruto has taken office as President of the European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng) for the 2026–2028 term, bringing extensive international experience in agricultural and biosystems engineering, research leadership and professional collaboration to the role.

Based at the University of Turin, Italy, Professor Berruto is a leading figure in agricultural engineering and has played a significant role in strengthening international cooperation across the discipline. His appointment follows a long-standing contribution to both EurAgEng and the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR), where he held several senior leadership positions.

Professor Berruto’s presidency begins following his involvement as co-convenor of the CIGR–EurAgEng World Congress 2026, held in Torino, Italy. Together with Professor Patrizia Busato of the Politecnico di Torino, he led the local organisation of the congress, which brought together the global agricultural and biosystems engineering community under the theme “Emerging Technologies and Innovation in Biosystems Engineering.”

The congress represented a major milestone for collaboration between CIGR and EurAgEng, attracting more than 650 researchers, professionals and industry representatives from more than 60 countries. The event showcased the breadth of innovation taking place across agricultural engineering, from automation and digital technologies to sustainable production systems and resource management.

Professor Berruto’s international leadership experience extends through CIGR, where he previously served as President from 2021–2022 and subsequently as Past President and Honorary President. He has also contributed to CIGR activities through his work with technical groups, including leadership of the Logistics Working Group, and has been recognised as a CIGR Fellow for his contributions to the profession.

At the University of Turin, Professor Berruto is full professor with the Interuniversity Department of Regional Studies and Planning (DIST), where his work has focused on agricultural machinery systems, logistics and the application of engineering approaches to improve efficiency and sustainability in agriculture.

During his term as EurAgEng President, Professor Berruto will continue the Society’s mission of promoting excellence in agricultural engineering, supporting young professionals, encouraging international collaboration and strengthening links between research, industry and practical applications.

His appointment also reinforces the close relationship between EurAgEng and CIGR, building on the successful partnership demonstrated through the 2026 World Congress and supporting continued development of the global biosystems engineering community, in the light of the next joint Congress CIGR–EurAgEng that will be held in Leuven, Belgium in 2030.
